Connect to Wi-Fi

Use your phone and the setup hotspot.

The device has no screen, so you set its Wi-Fi from your phone through a temporary hotspot it creates.

Steps

  1. Power the device. With no Wi-Fi saved, its light double-blinks and it opens a hotspot named PoPLense-XXXXX.
  2. On your phone, join that network. It has no password and exists only during setup.
  3. A setup page opens by itself. If it doesn't, open a browser and go to 192.168.4.1.
  4. Tap the PoP's network in the list (strongest first) and enter its password.
  5. Tap Save and connect. The device restarts, the hotspot disappears and it connects.

Requirements

  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The device can't use 5 GHz-only networks. On dual-band routers, make sure the 2.4 GHz band is enabled.
  • WPA/WPA2 security, or an open network. Enterprise (username + password) Wi-Fi isn't supported.
  • Outbound internet access on port 443 (HTTPS). No inbound ports or static IP needed.

Changing or disconnecting Wi-Fi later

  • On the setup portal: when joined to the setup hotspot, tap Disconnect & Forget to clear the stored network.
  • On site: hold the BOOT button for 3 seconds on the ESP32. The light will double-blink and the setup hotspot will open.
  • From the dashboard (device online): open the device and tap Wi-Fi → Change Wi-Fi network (owners and administrators). At its next check-in the device forgets the network and opens its setup hotspot; the page then shows the steps to pick the new network.
  • Automatic (device offline): a device that can't reach its Wi-Fi opens the setup hotspot by itself: 1 minute after power-on, or 3 minutes after losing a network it was connected to (firmware 0.3.2 and later). It keeps trying the old network meanwhile and closes the hotspot if that network comes back.

Network names must match exactly, including capital letters and spaces. Some routers add a trailing space to the name. Picking the network from the list avoids typing mistakes.
