Add a device to your account

Claim codes, QR, moving and removing devices.

Every device has a unique claim code printed on its label, like 7K3D-9QXM-4HTP. Adding a device with its code links it to your organization. Only owners and administrators can add devices.

Add with your phone (recommended)

  1. Open PoPLense on your phone and tap the + button in the middle of the bottom bar (on a computer: Add device).
  2. Allow the camera and point it at the QR code on the label. If the camera isn't available, tap Type the code instead.
  3. Check the device: you'll see Genuine PoPLense device, its model and ID. Tap Add this device.
  4. Choose the PoP where it's installed, or create a new one right there. Optionally give the device a name, like "Rack room".
  5. Follow the Wi-Fi steps on screen (join the device's PoPLense-XXXXX hotspot and pick your network). The page turns green by itself when the first reading arrives.

You can also scan the label with your phone's normal camera app: it opens PoPLense and continues in the same steps after you sign in.

Typing the code

The code has 12 characters. Dashes and capital letters don't matter, and it never contains 0, O, 1, I, L or U, so they can't be confused.

Messages you might see

  • Already in your account: nothing to do; open it from the list.
  • Belongs to another account: its current owner must remove it first, or contact us with proof of purchase.
  • Isn't ready yet: the unit hasn't finished factory setup. Contact the seller.

One device, one account

A device can belong to only one organization. If it's already linked elsewhere, you'll see a message asking its current owner to remove it first. This protects you: nobody can take over your monitoring by copying a label after installation.

After 10 incorrect codes in an hour, adding devices is paused for your user for one hour.

Move or remove a device

  • Move: Manage → Location moves it to another PoP. New readings belong to the new PoP.
  • Remove: Manage → Remove device unlinks it from your organization. Your history stays in your account. The device can then be added to another account with the same claim code, for example after a resale or replacement.
